How the Process Works — Great British Wills

How the Process Works

A straightforward process — beginning with a conversation that costs nothing and ends with documentation your family can rely on

How We Work

01

Introductory Discussion

A short telephone or video call — around 10 to 20 minutes. No preparation needed.

You will be asked about your family circumstances, where your key assets are held, what jurisdictions are involved, whether children are included, and what documentation — if any — you already have in place.

By the end of this conversation you will have a clear and honest account of what your estate planning position looks like, what needs to be addressed, and whether Great British Wills is the right fit. There is no obligation to proceed.

02

Understanding Your Position

Once you decide to proceed, a more detailed review maps your estate planning position across the relevant jurisdictions. This produces a clear picture of what documentation is needed, in what order, and by whom.

This includes distinguishing between what an English law will governs and what falls outside it — trust assets, jointly held property, pension nominations — and identifying where referrals to appropriately qualified lawyers are needed and which lawyers suit your specific circumstances.

You leave this stage with the full picture in front of you, not a list of things to worry about

03

Documentation and Referrals

The English law will is drafted, reviewed with you and executed.

Where assets outside England and Wales require separate documentation, an appropriately qualified lawyer is identified and introduced. The process is coordinated to ensure that any documents produced work alongside the English law will rather than in isolation from it — avoiding the gaps and conflicts that arise when each piece of documentation is produced without reference to the whole.

For families with children, guardianship documentation is addressed as part of this process rather than as a separate afterthought.

04

Completion and Ongoing Clarity

Once documentation is in place, you receive a clear record of what has been drafted, where original documents are held, and what should be reviewed if circumstances change — a new asset, a change of residence, a change in family structure.

Where pension nominations or UK inheritance tax planning are identified as needing attention, these are referred to Stuart Porter Financial Planning so that the financial and legal dimensions of your estate planning are addressed together.

Estate planning is not a one-time event. Your circumstances will change. Great British Wills is available for ongoing reviews and updates as they become relevant.
